Mary Lou Burnette, 85 of Richmond, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Health Center Unit at the Lakewood Manor Retirement Center in Richmond. Mary Lou was born on January 21, 1922 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Patrick Penn Burnette and Nellie Lacy Burnette of Bedford County. She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Austin of Huddleston and Hazel Aycock of Greenville, SC & one brother, Warren Burnette of Lynch Station.

She was a member of Independence United Methodist Church and also attended Mentow Baptist Church.

She graduated from Huddleston High School and went on to Longwood College where she earned her BS degree in Elementary Education. She taught at Altavista Elementary School in Campbell County and also in Prince William County. She received her Masters degree from Carver School of Mission and Social Work in Louisville, KY. She worked for Tennessee Baptist Convention director. She taught school in Memphis, TN for seven years. She worked in Richmond City Schools for 20 years and retired as administrator in Richmond Public Schools.

She is survived by numerous nieces & nephews.

A private family service will be conducted from the graveside at Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery, Huddleston with Rev. Rick Foster officiating.
