Amy Jeanette, daughter of Melvin and Alpha (Ringen) Hakanson was born February 21, 1926 at Kindred, North Dakota. She attended school in McLeod, North Dakota. She married Arvid Kjos in 1944 and they farmed near Wyndmere. In 1969, Amy graduated from State School of Science in Wahpeton, earning her LPN degree. Amy was the school nurse at Mayville State College and later worked at the St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Minnesota.
On July 1, 1972, she married Carmen Erickson at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They made their home on the family farm near DeLamere, where Carmen grew up. Carmen passed away on April 10, 2007.
Amy will be remembered and best known for her doughnuts and pancakes, which she made for her grandchildren when they would visit. Amy was an expert seamstress making clothes for herself and her daughters. She loved quilting and gardening. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church south of DeLamere.
She is surived by her seven children, Arlin (Noreen) Kjos, Marie (Leonard) McGinnity, Melinda (Arlin) Mund, John (Sheryll) Kjos, Dale Kjos, Estelle (Charles) Poulton, and Carlotta (Dwight) Rasmussen; a sister, Viola Milton; sister-in-law, Carol Hakanson; 28 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters. Amy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carmen, brothers, Alf, Donald and Harry, sisters, Ruth Moxness and Helga Hogness and an infant brother, Marcus.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by her funeral at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church south of DeLamere, ND. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
