Dr. HAROLD S. ALBERT Age 83, of Lake Worth, FL, passed away on May 8, 2003.

The son of the late William and Ray (Callis) Albert of Montreal, Canada,

Dr. Albert was born in Newport, RI and raised in Montreal.

He earned his B.A. degree from McGill University and his M.D. degree from McGill University School of Medicine.

Dr. Albert interned at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and then at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston, MA.

He served as a medical officer in the United States Army Medical Corps during World War II.

Following his military service, he completed a residency in Psychiatry at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Boston. He was certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1951, and in Psychoanalysis by the American Psychoanalytic Association in 1960. Dr. Albert again served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Korean War, during which time he was Chief of Psychiatry at Murphy Army Hospital, Waltham, MA and Fort Devens Army Hospital, Ayer, MA.

He then took up private practice, teaching, and doing research in the Boston area. He held positions on the clinical and teaching staffs of numerous medical institutions incIuding: Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School; Senior Physician at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center; Assistant in Surgery (Psychiatry) at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital; and was a consultant to several other Boston area institutions.

He was a Life Member of the American Psychiatric Association and a longtime member of numerous professional societies.

Dr. Albert derived great satisfaction from his years of private practice, and also greatly enjoyed his teaching career, in which he supervised medical students and residents at many Boston area hospitals and psychiatric institutions. In addition to his private practice and teaching, he also published articles in psychiatric journals and books.

During his years in Montreal and Boston, he was an avid fisherman and tennis player.

He lived part time in Florida until his retirement in 1997. He then became a full-time resident at Wycliffe Country Club in Lake Worth, enjoying golf and other activities with dear friends.

He is survived by Elaine, his beloved wife of 32 years; his dear son, William, from his first marriage; loving stepchildren: Patty Goldin, Dr. Gene Abelson, and Dr. Bruce Abelson; grandchildren: Jenifer Goldin, Andrew Goldin (Carrie), and Samantha Abelson; nieces, a nephew, and many dear friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 12 at 11:15 AM at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach followed by interment at Eternal Light Memorial Garden, Boynton Beach.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Jay Robert Lauer Hospice Unit at JFK Medical Center, 5301 S. Congress Ave., Atlantis, FL 33462.
