Melba "Bunny" Westgate
August 10, 1922 - November 29, 2018


Melba "Bunny" Westgate, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family in Creswell, Oregon on November 28, 2018, at the age of 96. She was born to Orville and Lulu Belle Eastman in Delmar, Iowa on August 10, 1922. Bunny to all who knew her, had a vibrant zest for life and loved her family and friends unconditionally.

She was well traveled, an amazing artist and lover of music and everything Hawaiian and Italian. She made banana pancakes and baked the best darned cookies around.

Bunny was a faithful and devoted wife to Verne Westgate married in 1941. She was a Rosie-the-Riveter during World War II while her husband Verne served in the Pacific arena as a Chief Petty Officer for the Navy.

Bunny is survived by three children, Verne Westgate Jr. (Robin) of Massachusetts, Diane Underwood-Wattier of Springfield, Oregon, previously of Clinton, Iowa and Lewis Westgate (Paula) of Elmira, Oregon, 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 nephew Dave Willis and 1 niece Ronnie-Sue Schoenle.

Bunny was preceded in death by her husband Verne, sister Orpha Willis, brother Jerry Eastman, grandson Jim Underwood and nephew Paul Willis Jr.

A service is planned for December 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the Fireside Room at New Hope Eugene Church. At a later date her remains will be joining her husband's at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
