Andrea Cortez Castañeda passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord on November 17, 2018, on the same date and week day and almost same hour as her beloved husband, Frank Macias Castañeda, eleven years prior.
Known to many as Ann, she is survived by her sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Pedro Cruz Cortez and Margarita Cisneros Cortez; her husband, Frank Castañeda; sisters Martina Cortez, Frances Saldaña, and Ofelia Armstrong Stewart.
Andrea was born on February 4, 1922, in San Marcos, TX. Andrea's life was remarkable in so many ways. She grew up during the Great Depression when so many families, like hers, were struggling to make ends meet.
She met Frank in Austin where she worked in a department store. They were married on February 12, 1945, while he was serving in the Navy during WWII. When his tour of duty ended, they returned to Texas and re-settled in San Marcos to raise a family. Many years later, as Frank approached retirement from civil service at Randolph AFB, the couple moved to Schertz in 1978 with their youngest son.
