Deborah Mhoon Patterson was born October 6, 1952, at the Fort Huachuca Arizona U.S. Army Base to the late Odies Mhoon and Louise Milan Mhoon. She was the eldest of four Mhoon siblings.

Following the years of military service, the family established residency in their Memphis, Tennessee hometown. The Mhoons left Memphis for what they hoped would be greener economic pastures in Illinois, but finally returned in 1970 to Memphis where the young Ms. Mhoon met and married James Patterson in 1976.

James in 2002, after 26 years of marriage, preceded Deborah in death. Deborah amassed over 33 years of continuous employment with Memphis City Schools Finance Division before her retirement in 2009. She professed her hope in Christ as her savior and maintained her spiritual fervor over the year of her life.

Deborah Mhoon Patterson succumbed to the ravages of her illness on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at her residence, where she was receiving palliative care through the Methodist Hospice professional services team. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving children: Andre Mhoon, Cordova Patterson and Rodney Patterson; her step-children and their spouses: Rosie (Marvin) Jackson, Tony A. (Barbara) Moore, Kathy (Ricky) Patterson-Brown, Reginald (Teresa) Patterson, Frederick (Sandra) Patterson, Cedric Patterson, Andre (Twollier) Moore; her grandchildren: Marquita McLemore, Chiquita [Wild Thang] Burse, and Nasheika Burse; her brothers and their spouses: Ronald (Roberta) Mhoon, Robert (Shirley) Mhoon, and Edgar Mhoon; and a hose of nieces, nephew, cousins, extended-family, and friends.
