Mr. Rex Dudley Newton, age 68, died Thursday at his residence following a lengthy illness. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1968 graduate of Portal High School. At the age of 19, Rex began his career as an electrician, working with H.A. Sack Company for 25 years. While working as and electrician, Rex also was a farmer and took great pride and joy in his cattle. He owned and operated Emanuel Industrial for several years and continued to work with multiple contractors throughout the years. Rex retired in 2013 and enjoyed being at home with his family and sitting on the back porch and watching his cows. He was a proud member of the NRA.
Rex was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Wilma Clifton Newton and a brother, Ray Newton.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Faye Finch Newton; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Sherri Newton of Portal; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Luke Williams of Stilson; his grandchildren Hayley Mrozik and husband T.J. of Joliet, IL, Cortnee Newton (Erik Renew) of Cooperville, Ashlynn Newton (Chandler Smith) of Cooperville and Aubrey, Olivia and Andrew Williams all of Stilson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 3:00pm until 6:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00am in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Gay officiating.
Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Luke Williams, Chris Newton, Tony Lariscy, Erik Renew, Chandler Smith and T.J. Mrozik.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Lanigan, Jeff Reddick, Albert Lucas, Jr., Neal Wiley and Robbie Humphrey.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
