LAKELAND, Fla. Janet L. Patterson Fish, 81 of Duanesburg and Lakeland, Fla., passed away on November 30, 2018, in Lakeland. She was born on June 22, 1937 in Cortland, N.Y. Jan graduated from Cortland High School in 1956. She attended the State University of New York College at Cortland graduating with a bachelor of science in elementary education in 1959, and a master of science in education in 1962. During her education career she taught at Marathon Central School in Marathon, N.Y.; Barry Elementary School in Cortland; Corning Free Academy in Corning, N.Y.; Hillsdale Public Schools in Hillsdale, N.J.; Oneonta City Schools, Oneonta; and Marist College. Jan married Thomas J. Patterson on August 15, 1964, in Corning. They had three children and enjoyed twenty-three years of marriage at the time of Tom's passing on March 24, 1987. On February 25, 1995, Jan married Paul B. Fish enjoying a life filled with love, infectious laughter, travel, friends, and most importantly her family. Jan was a master gardener, voracious reader, talented musician, seamstress, and fiber artist. She loved to entertain family and friends, and relished genuine conversations. She always wanted to know what was new and exciting in your life, and was renowned for her bear hugs. Jan will be most remembered for her strength, intelligence, sharp wit, and that she loved without measure. Jan is survived by her loving husband, Paul B. Fish; her children, Thomas J. Patterson II, and his wife Sheila F. LeMaster; Christopher G. Patterson, and his children, Cameron, and OliviaRose; Kelly A. Patterson, and her children, Bryanna, and Brayden; Timothy P. Fish, his wife Brigitte, and their children, Benjamin, and Noelle; Amanda D. Alger, and her children, Sarah, Cody, and Kyle; and her dear cousin Linda Strong Cardner and her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas J. Patterson; parents, Gordon L. Pierce and Joan Soshinsky Pierce, Helen E. Fletcher Allen and Arthur C. Allen; her siblings, Sandra Allen, Charles Allen, and David Allen; her daughter Bridget Fish-Graves; and her dear cousin Jean Strong.
