September 18, 2016, Jerry Joe Bennett, 74, of Saint Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Vienna, passed away peacefully at Bay Pines Veteran’s Hospital in Saint Petersburg, Fla.

He was born October 23, 1941, a son of the late Merle E. Bennett and Jessie Bennett, both of Vienna. He was the youngest son out of ten children with only two sisters younger than him.

He served his country during the Vietnam War as a marine in our nation’s armed services providing his services during two tours. Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors immensely. He was also an active member of the Mason fraternity both in Vienna and Florida.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Charlotte M. Bennett (Brown) whom he married February 15, 1964; two daughters, Christine M. Bennett of Saint Petersburg, Fla. and Jennifer Jo Johnson (Donald) of Saint Petersburg, Fla.; one grandson, Cody A. Johnson of Saint Petersburg, Fla.; four sisters, Ruth Bennett, Shirley Cottrill, Laura McDougal and Linda McDonald; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved younger sister, Diane (Thumper) Cremeans (Bill); his older brothers, Ovid (Tug) Bennett and James (Jim) Bennett; along with his sisters, Mary Nern (Gordon) and Pat Carpenter; and one nephew, Gregory Carpenter.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Saint Petersburg, Fla. along with Bay Pines VA Hospital for the kindness and support of their nurses, case managers and physicians.
