Eugene F. Berend, 95, of Pilot Point, TX, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 in Pilot Point, TX. Gene was born September 22, 1923 in Pilot Point, TX to Ferdinand and Mary (Michalek) Berend. Gene married Juanita Yarbrough on July 26, 1948 and she preceded him in death June 14, 1985. On February 14, 1988, Gene married Nellie Hall and she preceded him in death September 27, 2018. He served in the United States Navy.
Gene worked as a carpenter and liked to rebuild pianos. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, drove the church bus for ski and mission trips and ran the sound board. He also served as a Gideon and spent time helping widow ladies in the neighborhood.
Gene is survived by two sons, Randy Berend and wife Cynthia of Arlington, TX and Steve Berend and wife Caroline of Highland Village, TX; daughter, Juanda Keith and husband Steve of Pilot Point, TX; two sisters, Dorothy Yarbrough of Pilot Point, TX and Betty Jeffcoat and husband Billy of Waxahachie, TX; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand and Mary; three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held 2:00PM-3:00PM, Monday, December 3, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point, TX. A funeral service will follow the visitation with G. A. Moore officiating.
