Gerlene F. Caldwell Shackelford, 82, of Peru passed into the loving arms of her savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born in Powell County, Kentucky, on April 17, 1936, to Rex and Delora (Rogers) Hatton. A homemaker, Gerlene was married to Verlon C. Caldwell Sr. He preceded her in death. She later married William Shackelford, who also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Peru Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by her son Charles Caldwell (wife Diana), granddaughter Abbey Caldwell, and great-grandchildren Colton Caldwell and Julian Caldwell. Also surviving are a sister, Joyce Anders of Logansport, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Gerlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her son Michael John Caldwell; a brother, Buck Hatton; and a sister, Anna Dailey.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until approximately 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St., Peru, Indiana. Graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, with Pastor Phil Cruea officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Peru Church of the Brethren.
