Joyce B. Cate, 94 formerly of Western Cranston passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Briarcliffe Gardens, Johnston, RI.She was the wife of the late Allen P. Cate.

Born in Providence, daughter of the late Harold and Maude (Sjolander) Bentley.

Joyce graduated from Classical High School and then Katherine Gibbs where she earned her degree in medical secretarial studies. In her early years, she worked for a few doctors.
However, that is not where her career path took her she had a great passion for tennis. Joyce was a semi-professional tennis player, which was her livelihood and her pastime.

She leaves her three children Grant B. Cate of Cranston, Candace and her husband Joe Skorupa of Milford, MA, and Carter Cate of Brownville Jct., Maine. She was the grandmother of Gage Cate, Myrissa Cate, Nathan Skorupa, and Sheri Kelley. She was the great-grandmother of four. She is also survived by a sister Janet Batchelder.

A Memorial service will be Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at 10:00 am at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Calling hours will be Monday, December 17 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to RISPCA, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, RI 02915.
