Howard Wesley Ward, Jr. 91, of Culpeper died Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Novant UVA Health System Culpeper Medical Center. He was born September 27, 1927 in Devon, CT to the late Howard W. Ward, Sr., and Lila Russell Ward.

Howard was an educator for most of his working career. His undergraduate degree was from the University of Connecticut and his graduate degree was from Central Connecticut State College. His last full time position was at Germanna Community College as the Research Officer. He was a Mason for over 60 years and a member of the Ansantawae Lodge No. 89 A.F. & A.M. Howard also served in the US Marine Corps as a member of the Marine Corp Band. He was an avid woodworker and loved big band music.

He is survived by four children, Howard W. Ward, III (Donna), Keith F. Ward (Linda), Lisa W. Schenck (David), and Aaron P. Ward (Cassie); one brother, Charles R. Ward (Theresa); and nine grandchildren, Stacey Marion (Kenny), Jon Ward (Dana), Shannyn Cerimele (Mark), Evan Ward, Nathan Richardson, Taylor Richardson, Wesley Ward, Pippin Ward, and Hayden Ward.

Additional survivors include four great grandchildren, Kayla Marion (Tim), Caiden Ward, Draven Ward, and Ledger Ward; one great great grandson, Grayson Marion; one great niece, Heather Camp; and one great nephew, Jon Ward.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary C. Ward; and one nephew, Charles R. Ward, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Hopewell United Methodist Church, 23577 Lignum Rd, Lignum, VA with Pastor Mike Evans officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
