Funeral services of J. G. Burleigh of Pine Prairie, La., former Crowleyite, who died Tuesday, were held Wednesday at Morrow, La., interment being in the family cemetery. A Baptist pastor officiated, Mr. Burleigh having been a member of this denomination.
Mr. Burleigh, who at one time lived in this city, serving as a member of the city police force, had been in ill health for some time and death was not unexpected. He had made his home with relatives in Pine Prairie and Morrow for several years.
He is survived by his widow and five children, Edward Burleigh of Bayou Chicot, J. M. Burleigh of Pine Prairie, Mrs. T. D. Moss of Crowley, Mrs. W. W. Williams of Crowley and Bertrand Burleigh of Houston. Thirteen grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren also survive. His first wife, formerly Miss Keller, died some years ago, but he remarried.
Mr. Burleigh was born on May 9, 1852 in Morrow, La., and was 76 years old. Many Crowley people knew him well and recalled his former residence here.
