James Robert (Jim) Stallings, age 97, ascended to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 1, 2018. He was born in Pleasant Grove, Texas also known as “Shake Rag”, Texas.

Jim graduated from Henderson High School where he starred in Football and track. He learned to play golf left handed, even though he was right handed, and became a champion golfer in his adult life.

After high school, Jim joined the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, Corpus Christi and Rhode Island. During World War II he was a certified Aviation Metalsmith First and served in the Atlantic and Caribbean battles hunting German U-boats.

After the war Jim moved to Houston, Texas where he worked for Hughes Tool Company. He met the love of his life, Virginia Kent, and they have shared 70 years of marriage. In 1953 he moved his family to Jackson, Mississippi where he founded the Overhead Door Company of Jackson. He later established the Overhead Door Company of Gulfport and permanently moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Jim entered an Apprentice Degree in Freemasonry September 10, 1956, received his Fellow Craft Degree October 10, 1956, and was raised to a 32nd Degree Master Mason September 28, 1959. He was inducted into the Shriners Wahabi Temple in Jackson, Mississippi December 3, 1959.

In 1966 Hollywood discovered his exceptional acting talent when he was cast for a speaking role by Rob Reiner in the “Ghosts of Mississippi”. Unfortunately he was passed over by the Academy. However, he received residuals from Warner Brothers Pictures and regaled his friends and family with his movie set experiences with Alec Baldwin and Bill Macey.

Jim enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and gardening with his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the New Orleans Saints. Jim leaves behind the legacy of “Big Jim Stallings” who lived life to the fullest. His love for God, Family and friends is unsurpassed. Jim’s time on earth is fulfilled and the open arms of the Lord have welcomed him home.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Ida Belle Boatwright Stallings; his father, James Andrew Stallings; and his siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Kent Stallings; one daughter, Linda Peacock (Todd); three sons, Tommy Stallings (Mary), Bobby Stallings, and Neil Stallings (Kitty).
