He grew up on the family farm near West Concord. He moved to McGregor 49 years ago has resided there since. He was a graduate of McGregor High School. He owned his own business, Butler Spraying Service and was also a Millwright & member of Local 548. Besides his children and grandchildren, his greatest joy in life was being active in his work. He was an independent and bold man that enjoyed boating, bobcating, and building things.
Roger is survived by his partner, Kathi Bombarger: daughters Shaila (Grant) Moody and Shirin Butler; brothers: Perry, Steve, Dalen (Jolene), Dan (Tonya), Randy (Sonia), Brian (Vicki); sisters: Mona (Donald) McMartin, Lorraine (Paul) Mueller, Veletta (Todd) Gartner, Rhonda (Richard) Egan; sisters-in-law: Nancy DeSota Butler and Wendy Butler Summers; grandchildren: Isaiah, Augustine, Julia, Malachi, Gavin and Hannah; aunt, Bonnie Butler; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Penny; brothers Loren and Rodney, and nephews Matthew and Willie Mueller.
