Almonesson and Gloucester Twp. - James R. Philbin, Sr. of Almonesson, NJ formerly of Gloucester Twp. passed away suddenly on Dec 2, 2018 at the age of 74 years.

Devoted husband of the late Katherine M. Philbin (nee Banning) to whom he was married for 44 years. Beloved father of Kelly Philbin of Deptford, James R. Philbin, Jr. (Valerie) of Mickleton, NJ, and John R. Philbin, Sr., (Kimberly) of Gloucester Twp. Proud grandfather of Sarah, Bridget, Emma, John Jr., James III, Joseph, and Kara. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Dorothy Philbin (nee Stubbs), as well as two siblings, Richard E. Philbin, Jr., and Patricia Bangs.

Jim was born in Woodbury, NJ on March 10, 1944. He grew up in Almonesson, took great pride in serving our Nation by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a lifelong member of what is now known as Infant Jesus Parish/St. John Vianney Church, where he served as an Altar Server as a child.

He eventually moved to Gloucester Twp., but continued the relationship with his childhood parish, serving on Parish Council (Past President), as a Lector, and as a member of Knight of Columbus Council 13259 (St. Margaret's). After his wife's passing, Jim downsized from his family home in Gloucester Twp., and moved back to his hometown of Almonesson.

Jim loved spending time with his family; liked to have a good martini with friends; and he loved to travel, visiting Cape May, New Orleans, and Las Vegas. When his children were growing up, Jim was always there to be a basketball or baseball coach when one of the teams needed a volunteer. He had a keen interest in politics, and at one time served as a Deptford Township Committeeman. He was a former volunteer with the Deptford Ambulance Squad, and an avid Phillies fan all of his life.

Viewings will be Thursday, Dec. 6th, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM, and Friday, Dec. 7th, 9:00 AM - 10:15 AM, both at Earle Funeral Home, 122 W. Church St., Blackwood, NJ 08012.
