Stephen Paul Barnard, 72, of Natick, and formerly of Framingham, died peacefully Sunday Dec. 2, 2018 at MetroWest Medical Center in Natick. He was the beloved husband of Janet (McCabe) Barnard with whom he shared 41 years of marriage. Born in Medford, he was the son of Warren and Helen (Donovan) Barnard. Raised in West Roxbury, he was a graduate of Catholic Memorial HS, Boston College in 1968 and later earned a master's degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University. A decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Barnard served with Army Intelligence and received several commendations before his honorable discharge. He worked for the US Immigration Office for 8 years and also in security at Logan Airport before retiring due to illness. In addition to his wife, he leaves his children: Jamie Bergan and husband Andy of Muncie, Indiana, Thomas Christopher Barnard of Natick and Meghan Anne Mulrain and husband Christopher of Fremont, NH; 3 grandchildren: Sam, Isabella and Joey; and 2 brothers: Sandy Barnard of North Carolina and Gerard Hickson of Washington State. He was the father of the late Erin Elizabeth Barnard who died in 1981. Visiting hours are Thursday Dec. 6 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Boyle Bros. Funeral Home, 173 Union Ave., Framingham. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday Dec. 7 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, 251 Concord St., (Rte. 126), Framingham. Burial with military honors will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, on Friday Dec. 7 at 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in his name to: the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA. 01701.
