JOHN LAND, the husband of Norma Louise Mitchell Land of Waco, Kentucky and the son of the late James Monroe and Georgia Coomer Land, was born in Lee County, Kentucky on May 31, 1934 and departed this life in Lexington, Kentucky on November 27, 2018 at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 28 days.
He was a Navy veteran who served on the USS Point Defiance, he was a mechanic working on various types of heavy equipment, vehicles and motors, an avid woodworker, an auto parts store owner, a coal truck driver, a dragline operator, worked in road construction and was a member of the Richmond Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife Norma, Mr. Land is survived by their five children, Diana Stamper and husband Wayne of Richmond, Kentucky, Debbie Kelly of Lexington, Kentucky, Daryl Land of Beattyville, Darlena Fox and husband Jon of Lexington, Duron Land of Shelbyville, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 8 brothers and sisters, Jerry Richard Land, Maxine Combs, Madrew Land, Madonna Drew, Marcella Land, Madeline Flynn, Marie Adams, Meridith Susan Orick; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Land was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James Thomas, Jesse and Joe Land; and two sisters, Mavis Brandenburg and Mary Alice Greenwell.
