Alfred Robertson Dalton, Jr., 87, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018. The Hartsville, Tennessee native lived most of his life in Live Oak, Florida. Upon graduating from Trousdale County High School in Hartsville in 1950, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served at Carswell Air Force Base near Fort Worth, Texas, as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief of a B-36 “Peacemaker” during the Korean War. Following his time in the service, Al moved to Live Oak where he became an avid businessman and active member of the community. He worked in local agriculture and the tobacco industry for nearly 50 years during which time he worked for the Big Independent Tobacco Warehouse in Live Oak, the Eastern Kentucky Tobacco Warehouse in Morehead, Kentucky, and the Lake City Tobacco Warehouses in Lake City, Florida. He was also a partner in the Dixie-Big Burley Tobacco Warehouse in Asheville, North Carolina, and a member of the Flue-Cured Tobacco Cooperative Stabilization Corporation. In 1969, Al purchased and renovated the historic Blue Lodge in Live Oak. He owned and operated the establishment under the name of Village Inn Apartments for 43 years. Al was a member of the Live Oak Elks Lodge, the Live Oak Shrine Club, and the Barrett and Hayward Masonic Lodge. Al enjoyed boating on the Suwannee River. He also relished spending time with loved ones and was a loyal and true friend to many. His wit and humor kept everyone on their toes. Above all else, Al was a loving and devoted father who will be dearly missed. Mr. Dalton is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred R. Dalton, Sr. and Myra Fairley Dalton of Hartsville, TN; sister, Jean Dalton Bennett of Jackson, MS; and niece, Jean Diane Bennett of Jackson, MS. He is survived by his daughter, Sadie Dalton (Scott Peterson); brother, John D. Dalton of Marietta, GA; three nieces; and four nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in the Daniels Memorial Chapel with interment following in the Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 10:00 am until service time. Should friends desire, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Operation Patriot, Inc.
