Sue Brent Pitts was a mother and wife. She was employed as a training officer with the Jackson-Hinds County (Mississippi) Civil Defense Office (later called Jackson-Hinds Emergency Operations Center) for many years. She was also active in the local Parent Teachers Association when her sons were in school. As a member of the Mississippi Gem & Mineral Society, Sue served as the president as well as the long-time editor of the society newsletter "Rocky Echoes." She was instrumental in leading the effort to get the prehistoric whale Zygoriza kochii, which she helped excavate from a creek in Yazoo County, proclaimed the Mississippi State fossil. She was survived by her sons, James, Patrick (now deceased), and William (now deceased).
