Dr. Justin Williams
JANUARY 10, 1931 – NOVEMBER 25, 2018

Justin L. Williams, MD, age 87, died peacefully, in the company of his loving daughter and granddaughter, Sunday, November 25, 2018 at his home in Raymond, CA.

Born January 10, 1931 in Ann Arbor, MI to Arthur Justin Williams, MD and Carolyn Helbig Williams, Justin spent his childhood in San Francisco, CA before attending Stanford University and the Stanford University School of Medicine. While completing a residency in Minneapolis, MN he met a beautiful graduate student, Margaret Seckman, and the two were wed at Christ Episcopal Church, February 1, 1958 in her hometown of Clarksburg, W VA. A son, John Lowell was born as Justin was commissioned as captain, serving in the US Army medical corps in Frankfurt, Germany.

Following military service, Williams settled in Ross, CA and began private radiological practice with his father in San Francisco, CA. The family grew with the births of Justin Laurence and Margaret Carolyn, then in 1975 Dr. Williams assumed the role of Chief of Radiology for Valley Medical Center, years later merging with Community Hospital in Fresno, CA. Teaching was his passion. An Associate Professor in the UCSF network of physicians, Dr. Williams instructed hundreds of medical students, over more than twenty years. Computed tomography (CT) scanning came to VMC during Dr. Williams’ tenure. He was eager to introduce the latest diagnostic and interventional techniques, while transferring his knowledge and procedural skill to the next generation of medical professionals.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Justin was generous with his time, his talents and his treasure. Having a dry wit that was unmatched, Justin was also a good listener, often saying, “Tell me about you. How are you doing?” He enjoyed classical and bagpipe music. He curated a varied collection of orchids and was an avid reader to the end, preferring high intrigue and suspenseful tales of Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn. In his younger days, he once skied in the Austrian Alps and did much of his university studying aboard a small sailboat on the San Francisco Bay. Exploring the high camps of Yosemite National Park was a favorite activity and he later hosted many aboard the family ski boat at Bass Lake, CA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, wife Margaret, and little sister Lynne Williams Pflueger. Survivors include son Lowell (DeeDee) Williams of Lowville, NY, son Laurence (Janice) Williams of Lindsay, TX, daughter Margaret Williams, six grandchildren; Bayleigh Bower, Rhea Williams, Clayton Williams, Claire Williams, Campbell Williams, Madelyn Williams, a niece, eight nephews and loyal friend and care provider Rose Brewer.

Arrangements are under the direction of Boice Funeral Home in Clovis. A chapel service, to include military honors, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA.

The family welcomes the sharing of memories of Justin Williams by signing the online guest book and requests that memorial remembrances be directed to Fresno Rescue Mission P.O. Box 1422, Fresno, CA 93716-1422.
