Rita Gaye Hale, 65, of Mullens, WV, born on July 7,1952 to the late Fount and Lucy Epperson Hale, departed this life on Sept. 5, 2017 of a long illness. She was known for her sense of humor and ever-so-quick wit. She was unapologetic in her bold personality, and for that, Rita will be missed dearly by all. Rita is survived by sons Keith (Lisa) Waycaster of Beaver, WV and Shane Smith of Mullens, WV. Other surviving family includes sisters Carol McKinney of Statesville, NC, Sylvia (Calvin) Sizemore of White Oak, WV, Anna Reeves of Gastonia, NC, Diana (James) Stevenson of Boonville, NC, Lucy (Charles) Ashley of Mullens, WV, and Kathy Day of Mullens, WV. Two surviving brothers include Michael (Debbie) Hale of Beckley, WV and Peyton Hale of Pineville, WV. She is also survived by grandsons Chase, Trey, and Benjamin, and many nieces, nephews, cousins with special mention to friends Danielle Vines and her son Shane of Mullens, WV. Rita was preceeded in death by two husbands, Roger Waycaster and Kenneth A. Smith, and siblings Robert Leslie Hale and Deborah Lane. The family wishes to thank Mullens Volunteer Fire Department, area EMS crews, and the ICU staff at Beckley-ARH for their care of our mother and sister. With deep gratitude, we wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the many friends for the cards, flowers, and other expressions of kindness shown during the loss of our loved one.
