Martin Thorstin Kjenstad was born in Creston, BC, moved to Kimberley and then grew up in Langley. He worked at a sawmill in New Westminster for over 30 years and in 1995, moved to Cranbrook seeking employment but was prevented by an illness that forced him to retire. Martin is described as a person who enjoyed playing crib, spending time in his vegetable garden, and spending time with his inseparable rescue dog.

Martin passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. He was 71 years old. He is survived by 2 brothers, 2 sisters and many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Thea, sisters June (Frances Warner) Lois and Faith, his brother Tom (Thomas), and nephews Robert Matson and James Kjenstad.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in Westlawn Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
