Frances Hill Caldwell Jackson was the daughter of Frances Hill Caldwell and James Wentworth Caldwell, Sr. She was the Grand-daughter of two long-standing Nashville families, the late H.G. Hill, Sr., founder of the H. G. Hill Grocery Company, now the H.G. Hill Realty Company, and James E. Caldwell, a prominent early Nashville citizen. Sister to Anne Caldwell Parsons, May Caldwell Brown, and James Wentworth Caldwell, Jr.
Frances married Harold Edward Jackson, Jr. and to this union three children were born, Frances Jackson Ambrose, Harold Edward Jackson III, and Kathleen Jackson Estes. Affectionately called "Mumsie" by her grandchildren, Kathleen Ambrose Kestermann, Frances Hill Ambrose, Anna Clark Ambrose, Benjamin Estes Ambrose, Harold E. Jackson, IV, Margaret Elizabeth Jackson, Caroline Scofield Jackson, Allister Caldwell Estes, John McDougall Estes, and Thomas William Estes II.
Frances attended Parmer School, graduated from Ward-Belmont High School as a member of the last graduating class, and attended Vassar College. In 1955, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
Frances attended St. George's Episcopal Church, where she twice served on the Vestry and was a member of the Board of Directors of the H. G. Hill Company. She served on the Boards of Ensworth School and Harpeth Hall School, where she became a lifetime Trustee. She was active as a volunteer in a variety of community projects. Among them she was a past president of the Junior League of Nashville, past Regent of the Ladies Hermitage Association, past chairman of the Swan Ball benefiting Cheekwood Botanic Gardens and Fine Arts Center. She was past president of the Garden Club of Nashville. A member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Review Club, the International Study Club, the Monday Book Club, and Wednesday Weeders Garden Club. She participated in the business world for a number of years as an active real estate agent.
Frances served as a founding Board Member of Capital Bank and Trust in Nashville, which was acquired by Rensant Bank in 2007. She loved reading, travel, and playing bridge. Some of her fondest memories were of the many years and days spent with family and friends at Rock Island, Tennessee.
She especially wanted to be remembered as a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and a responsible citizen.
