FAIRMONT — Gerald L. Myers, 74, of Fairmont, passed away on November 30, 2018, at the Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on May 5, 1944, in Rowlesburg, a son of the late James A. Myers and Thestle M. Taylor Myers.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Myers; brother, Thomas (Barbara) Myers; loving companion, Sherry Griffith and her sister, Shirley; brother-in-law, Kenneth Cline; nieces and nephews, Robert Tetrick, Cheryl (John) Apazeller, Beth (Bruce) Sara, Michael (Linda) Cline Sr. and Michael Jr., Kellie (Ralph) Scumaci and Taylor, Misty (Chip) Rogers, Makenna and Hunter, Betsy (Adam) Dickerson, Kaycee and Carson.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by brothers, Harold Myers and William E. Myers; sisters, E. Loraine (Myers) Tetrick, Catherine (Myers) Cline and Carol A. (Myers) Grimes and nephew, David P. Cline.
Gerald will be remembered for his fun-loving nature, and for caring for his family, church family and friends. He attended East Fairmont High School and later went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge is April of 1967. He completed his studies at Akron Machining Institute, Inc., in Barberton, Ohio, in May of 1987. He retired after having worked at a variety of positions: Weather-Tite, Sonoco Paper, B.F. Goodrich, Bedway, Advance Security, and lastly, a contracted position at Monongahela Power. He was a member of the Meadowdale Wesleyan Church of Fairmont.
The family wishes to thank the Hospice Care Center of V.A. for their care of Jerry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Meadowdale Wesleyan Church, 474 Pride Ridge Road, Fairmont, WV 26554, or the American Cancer Society, Marion County Unit 122 S High St., Morgantown, WV 26501.
Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, on Monday, December 3, 2018, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., with a memorial service starting at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Tim Carpenter officiating.
