Born July 16, 1943 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late William Albert Rowland and Elizabeth Worley Rowland. He was predeceased by two brothers, Elwood Rowland and Johnny Rowland. Tommy retired from Klopman after 39 years of service. Following his retirement from Klopman he worked for an additional 10 years for Sonny Merryman. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing with his brothers, the Dallas Cowboys, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Tommy loved the church and spent 47 years as a Deacon and was currently a member of Edge Baptist Church in Gladys. Involved in community affairs, he was a Life member of Citizens Emergency Crew in Gladys and had over 35 years of service with the crew.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Pickeral Rowland of the residence; one daughter, Lora R. Layne and husband, Gerald of Long Island; one son, Stuart A. Rowland and wife, Amanda of Gladys; one brother, Paul Rowland and wife, Liz of Gladys; five grandchildren, Justine Layne, Carter Thomas Layne, Kaylee Rowland, Leslie Rowland and Scarlett Rowland.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Dr. Jerry P. Jordan. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
