Childers
Mrs. Sarah Childers nee Pritchard was born in Ohio Jan. 28, 1834. When twelve years of age she came with her parents to Illinois. In October of the year 1850 [January 8, 1852] she was married to Anderson Childers.
Their union was blessed with nine children. Of these three have passed away to the life beyond and also her beloved husband. Those who survive are: William, Narcator, Kan., Cisco, Denver, Ill., Wesley, Lebanon, Neb., Bud, Gowrie, Neb., Henry, Wardner, Idaho and Hattie Bloyd, Carthage, Ill. There survive her also one sister, Lydia E. Tobia [sic] of Prairie City and a brother Daniel Pritchard of Shelbina, Mo. There are also twenty-seven grandchildren and also nineteen great grandchildren [sic].
She had made her home with her daughter, Mrs, [sic] H. B. Bloyd for the twenty two [sic] years that have passed since her husband died. She had gone to spend the winter with her son at Lebanon, Neb., where she was visited with a severe attack of pneumonia and after four weeks [sic] suffering God's finger touched her and she slept.
She joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Cuba, Ill[.], and confessed her faith in her Lord, at the age of nineteen and the light of faith that shown has never grown dim. For more than thirty years her membership was with the Rock Creek church and although transfer was made to Carthage, Ill., a year ago, the transfer was not used, and Mrs. Childers remained in the fellowship of the Rock Creek church until the day of her death, when she joined the church triumphant above.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Blandinsville at 1:30 o'clock on Sunday Jan. 23, the Rev. Alfred Dixon officiating and the interment was in the South cemetery.
