Funeral service for Clayton Long was Friday, May 18 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with Pastor Larry Monthei of the United Methodist Hope Parish officiating.

Casket Bearers were Mike Olesen, Dennis Olesen, Doug Long, Terry Long, P.J. Fisher, Jeff Monthei, Larry Paulsen, Patti Gerlach, Nick Olesen and Cheryl Hedrick.

Honorary Casket Bearers were Cassie Warner, Allie Brooks, Jacobe Merit, Skyla Bruns-Long, Brianna Esslinger, Jayce Esslinger, Jorrie Esslinger, Abby Brooks, Michelle Brooks and Trenton Warner.
Interment was in the Orange Township Cemetery south of Coon Rapids.

Clayton Dale, son of Harold Andrew and Lois Pauline (Shoesmith) Long, was born May 25, 1942, on the family farm near Coon Rapids in Guthrie County. He attended rural school through the eighth grade and then started working on the family farm.

On May 26, 1960, Clayton was united in marriage with Carol Carpenter at the First Christian Church in Coon Rapids. They lived in Glidden and were the parents of four children. Clayton started working for Dean Remsberg as a farm hand in 1964, where he helped for close to 25 years. In 1983 he moved to Coon Rapids where he began working as a farm hand for Harry Olesen, Jr. During this same time he helped out with Larry Cady Trucking in Coon Rapids.
Clayton was a member of the First Christian Church in Coon Rapids. He enjoyed anything outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. He was also known as a good cook.
Clayton died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Coon Rapids on Tuesday, May 15 at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 20 days.

Preceding him in death are his parents; sister Nancy Lee Long, in infancy; granddaughter Brianna Esslinger; two brothers Howard Long (Rose) and Melvin Long and sister-in-law Gladys Long.

Clayton is survived by two sons Steve Long and Jim Long both of Coon Rapids, two daughters Deena Merit (John) of Coon Rapids and Gina Esslinger (Doug) of Bayard; six grandchildren: Skyla Bruns-Long; Cassie Warner (Tyler), Allie Brooks (Mike); Jacobe Merit; Jayce Esslinger; and Jorrie Esslinger; three great-grandchildren Abby Brooks, Michelle Brooks and Trenton Warner; three sisters Jessie Olesen (Earl) of Audubon, Evelyn Olesen (Harry Jr.) of Coon Rapids and Helen Monthei (Rich) of Coon Rapids; two brothers Paul Long of Stanhope and Maurice Long (Angie) of Coon Rapids; special friend Judy Ankenbauer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
