Jackie Ross joined his much loved wife, family and friends in Heaven on Thursday, Nov. 29th, 2018. He was born on Sunday, October 23, 1932 at Laurel Ck., East Lynn, WV in Wayne Co. to the late Barney Bastin and Thelma Genevieve Aldridge Ross. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Gaynelle Fry Ross. Jackie belonged to East Lynn Baptist church in East Lynn, WV. Jackie graduated HS in 1951 and took pride in his football abilities and his team which helped build his strength, determination and character in life. Jackie was a veteran of the US Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 in which he was blessed to make lifelong friends. In life, he was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandad that was like a father to two of his granddaughters, Erica and Allison Sullivan. He worked hard to provide for his family and loved going to work until the age of 65. He retired as a Diesel Mechanic from CJ Hughes Construction after 19 years, his nickname at work was “Hammer”. He also worked at the coal mines in East Lynn, WV while in high school, later at the Chevrolet and Ford dealerships in Wayne, WV as well as Steiner’s International in Huntington, WV. His work ethic was bar none. People in the community would come to him for his expertise in his field. If he wasn’t working or spending time with his family his favorite and most relaxing past time was fishing which he loved to do. He enjoyed attending football games at WHS with his friends and telling jokes in his spare time. Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Ross Baker and husband, Jackie of Lavalette, WV; three sons, Mark Jamison Ross and wife, Lisa of Wayne, WV; Lawrence Joseph Simpkins (Diane) of Phoenix, AZ, Daniel Rodney Simpkins of Wayne, WV; a sister, Joyce Marlene Adkins and husband, Raleigh Gerald of Huntington; two brothers, Ronald Lee Ross of East Lynn, WV and Bernard Keith Ross of Lavalette, WV whom he always shared a close bond with; six grandchildren, Erica Wellman (Wade), Allison Perdue (Brandon), Christy Russell (Billy) and Ashley Ross, Tyler & Forster Simpkins;his great-grandchildren as well have many special nieces and nephews. He fought valiantly against a long term medical condition, it was not his personality to give up on anything he set his mind to. We would like to Thank Dr. Esom Baryun and his staff for their dedication to him as well as anyone who cared for him in his later years. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm Morris Funeral Home in Wayne, WV by pastor Fred Ferguson with visitation on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 6-9. His final resting place will be at Community Memorial Gardens in Wayne, WV.
