Betty was baptized and confirmed at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. She attended Douglas No. 1 Country School through 8th grade. She completed her high school education at Newell Consolidated School, graduating in May 1937.
On March 12, 1942, she was united in marriage to Harry S. Christensen. Three children were born to this union.
Betty was employed as a CNA at the Newell Good Samaritan Center for 3 years and then spent 18 years at Buena Vista Hospital in Storm Lake where she retired.
Betty and Harry joined the First Congregational Church in 1955. She enjoyed being active in her church groups. She enjoyed collecting Danish Christmas plates and spending time with her friends playing cards. She enjoyed travelling as she visited family in Denmark, went on cruises and bus tours. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Gregory (Sharon) Christensen of Lodi, California; Bruce (Donna Salas) Christensen of Mallard, Iowa; and daughter Karen (Dan Gatto) Weidauer of Oakley, California; grandchildren: Tonja (Peter) Erickson of Columbia Falls, Montana; Damon (Melanie) Christensen of Lathrop, California; Courtney Christensen of Lodi, California; Alisha (Josh Weber) of Early, Iowa; Rachel (Randy) Murray of Ashland, Oregon; Adam (Vanessa) Weidauer of Sonoma, California; Joel Weidauer of Oakley, California; 8 great-grandchildren; her sister, Verna Witter of Rosedale, Illinois; sister-in-law, Donna Petersen of Loveland, Colorado; and sister and brother-in-law, Ella and Gilbert Marten of Ames, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Christensen; her parents; her sister and brother-in-law Elva and Warren Frerichs; her brother, Virgil “Spike” Petersen; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clifford and Evelyn Christensen.
