Laura E Trevenen, born 21 September 1899 to George and Anna (Perrin) Trevenen, grew up in Sioux City, Iowa.

She moved with her parents to Waukegan, Illinois, in the mid 1920s. Laura taught English at the Waukegan High School until her retirement.

After her father died in 1931, Laura remained at home with her mother and aunt Laura Perrin, the Waukegran librarian.
