Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Sugar Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center or to Easter Seals.
Velma was born on November 14, 1916, in Colusa, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Effie (Carnes) Scanlan. She married Orval Glisan on October 4, 1941. He passed on January 25, 1985. She later married Ben Thomas on March 4, 1989. He passed on February 6, 2011.
Velma attended the First Christian Church in Moline for more than 50 years. Velma previously worked as a beautician and retired in 1981 from McCabe’s Department Store in Rock Island. She enjoyed following her grandchildren’s sporting events, and the Cardinals, Bulls, Illinois State University, the Illini, Iowa and the Broncos. She enjoyed milkshakes and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda (Bob) Siebert, Bloomington; son, Lou (Juele) Glisan, Breckenridge, CO; daughter-in-law, Nancy Glisan; grandchildren, Kelly (Erna) Glisan, Darian, IL, Shane (Shannon) Glisan, Las Vegas, Luke (Kylie) Glisan, New York, NY, Jeff (Enola) Glisan, Centennial, CO, Andrea (Don) Thorpe, Bloomington, and Danica (Brian) Wilson, Normal; 10 great grandchildren; and sister, Mable Velge.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Orval and Ben, son, Vern Glisan, great grandson, Vander Thorpe, and 8 siblings.
