Funeral services for Dan Thomas Johnson, 83, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Gainesville with Dr. Jeff Langley officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, November 30 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnson passed away November 29, 2018 in Gainesville.

Dan was born February 17, 1935 near the Burns City area of Cooke County on the family farm. He was a member of the 1952 graduating class of Valley View High School, where he excelled in football. Dan married Lula Bell Whisenant on August 2, 1958 in Gainesville. Mr. Johnson retired in 1996 following over 40 years of employment with Redi-Mix Concrete, formerly Boyd Ware Concrete. He served as an ordained deacon at First Baptist Church for many years. Mr. Johnson loved all animals, particularly his pets and the cows he cared for regularly on the same family property on which he was born and raised.

Survivors include: wife Lula Bell Johnson of Gainesville; daughter Danna Lu Fredrick of Gainesville; daughter Donna Sue Wells and husband Vance of Gainesville; granddaughter Laura Wells Bellows and husband Lyle of Gainesville; granddaughter Rachel Wells of Prescott, AZ; grandson Jordan Thomas Fredrick of Gainesville; granddaughter Abbey Wells Springer and husband Austin of Lubbock; grandson Jace Chandler Fredrick of Gainesville; great-grandchildren: Landry Thomas Bellows and Layne Parker Bellows; sister Peggy Phillips of Greenville; his dearest friend, Dr. Larry Bengfort; and his beloved pets: Phoebe, Tinker Bell, and Bobber.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by: his parents; brother J.Y. Johnson; brother Dale Johnson; father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Myrtle Whisenant; and son-in-law John Fredrick.

Serving as pallbearers are: Jace Fredrick, Jordan Fredrick, Lyle Bellows, Austin Springer, Vance Wells, and Marcello Gomes.
