Elnora “Nora” Elizabeth Jiggetts Evans, 91, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by family on November 16, 2018.

She was born on January 30, 1927 in Mecklenburg County, VA to Willie and Willie Beatrice Talley Jiggetts.

At an early age, Elnora accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church in La Crosse, VA. She later joined Pleasant Hill RZUA Church where she was a Mother of the Church, and a faithful member and servant in the Choir, Missionary, and Usher Board. Elnora was also a member of the House of Ruth #4937.

Elnora attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools. She retired as a Nursing Assistant from Community Memorial Hospital where she worked for over 30 years.

On December 20, 1946, Elnora was joined in Holy Matrimony to Essex Evans, and to this union 7 children were born. Elnora loved her family dearly and she especially loved her birthday parties. She loved having fun with her family and friends. Elnora also treasured her church family. She loved singing and traveling to local churches with the choir. She loved her weekly outings with the Senior Citizens and volunteering at the Bread Box. Elnora was loved by all and she will truly be missed.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Essex Evans; children, Shirley Clay, Jeannett “Boo” Evans-Wilson, Bernard Evans and Essex Lee Evans; sisters, Gladys “Lou” Baskerville, Ida Lee Patillo, Etta Rose Connor and Annie Bell Jiggetts; brothers, Granderson, Ernest Lee, Willis and Weldon Jiggetts; and grandson, Fredrick Ryan Robinson.

Survived by her daughters, Brenda Williams, Cylvia (Prince) Thomas and Threatha (Freddie) Robinson; 18 grandchildren, among them a special granddaughter, whom she helped raise, Katrina Washington and a devoted caregiver granddaughter, Chandra Cooper; 37 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren; sister, Sarah Malone; sisters-in-law, Ida Jiggetts and Roselle “Duck” Tisdale; daughter-in-law, Linda Evans; a dedicated nephew, Floyd “DB” Baskerville and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held November 24, 2018 at the RZUA Headquarters and Conference Center, 2504 Rocky Branch Rd., La Crosse, VA with Rev. Joseph Peterson, pastor of Pleasant Hill RZUA Church officiating and Curtis Lamont Thomas, eulogizing. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
