Carl Edward Vermillion Sr., age 86, husband of Marie Evans Vermillion, of 204 Englewood Circle, Starr, SC, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at his residence. Born in Williamston, SC, on September 3, 1920, Mr. Vermillion was a son of the late C.W. Vermillion and Vallie Lee Wright Vermillion. He was retired from the maintenance dept. of Owens Corning Fiberglas and he was a lifetime member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge. Mr. Vermillion was of the Greatest Generation serving in the United States Navy during WWII. He served in the South Pacific on the USS Hocking. He served during the invasion of the Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He a recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, The American Theatre of War Medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of War Medal with four stars, The African-European Theatre of War Medal and the Military Good Conduct Medal. He was a graduate of Boys' High and he was a member of the Southside Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, Sunday school teacher and member of the choir. He is survived by his wife, Marie Evans Vermillion of the home; his son, Carl Vermillion Jr. and his wife, Jackie, of Anderson; his daughter, Kay Vermillion Daily and her husband, John of Anderson; his sister, Edith V. Carter of Clinton, SC; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Vermillion; his brother, Howard Vermillion and his sister, Claudia Davis. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 4:00 pm at Southside Baptist Church officiated by the Reverend Phil McAlister and the Reverend Hudson White. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 24,
