Rose Marie Cecil Lee, 96, Raywick, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, July 29, 2020, at the Sisters of Loretto Motherhouse.
She was married to the late Albert Lee and they shared a life of love and commitment for 61 years. Rosie was born Oct. 10, 1923 in Howardstown, a daughter of the late Alvan and Marietta Cecil. Her childhood began during the Great Depression and her life ended during a global pandemic – what happened in-between was similarly remarkable.
A devoted parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and long-serving member of the Raywick City Council, Rosie was well-loved in her community. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She enjoyed quilting with her church sewing club and was known for her detailed memory. She will be remembered for her composure, unwavering faith, and calm disposition.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: her son, David Lee; brother, Edwin Cecil; sister and brother-in-law, Alvanita and J.W. Mann; one grandson, John G. Lee Jr.; one infant great-grandson, Stephen Chase Gordon; and one step-great-grandson, Michael Robey.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Dickie Nally of Loretto, Carol and E.C. Gordon of Raywick; son and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Peggy Lee of St. Mary; daughter-in-law, Jane Lee of Lebanon; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation under social distancing guidelines was held on Friday, July 31, 2020 from 3-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020 at 11 a.m. Burial followed in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Working the Puzzle for Autism, Inc., c/o Farmers National Bank, P.O. Box 631, Lebanon, KY 40033 or Mass of the Air, 508 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY 40207.
