Mr. Jack Helms, age 72, of Lyons, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Savannah and lived most of his life in Toombs County. He was a heavy equipment operator for the City of Vidalia and the Toombs County Road Department. Jack was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Lyons and the Men's Sunday School Class. He enjoyed fishing, playing his guitar and singing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Jackson Helms and Connie Lee Davis Helms; one brother, Robert Helms and five infant brothers; a sister-in-law, Dana Helms; and a brother-in-law, Terry Fletcher.

Mr. Helms is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Dr. Brenda W. Helms of Lyons; five sons, Rodney Helms and wife Leigh Anne of Mt. Vernon, Michael Helms and wife Charlotte of Higgston, Lt. Colonel Charles C. Manning and wife Yvonne, currently stationed in South Korea, Benjamin S. Helms and wife Angela of Vidalia and Blake Helms of Lyons; one brother, J.T. Helms of Higgston, eight sisters, Faye Whaley and husband Ray of Oklahoma, Sandra Helms and husband Ellis of Higgston, Rose Braddy and husband Ken of Higgston, Irma Taylor and husband Rick of New Hampshire, Linda Helms of Texas, Gail Gibson and husband Jimmy of South Carolina, Vickie Fletcher of the Center Community and Lynn Collins and husband Timmy of Vidalia; one sister-in-law, Carol Helms of Vidalia; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. in the Liberty Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Plowman and Hugh Wingard officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
