As a young teen he moved with his family to San Jose, California. After high school he joined the United States Navy, becoming a jet engine mechanic. He was stationed at Subic Bay, Philippines and then Moffett Field Airfield, Mountain View, California.
While stationed at Moffett Field he met the love of his life, Linda Gardner. They were married for thirty-seven years and had three children. In 1995 Mike and Linda left The Bay Area and moved to Los Banos, California seeking a small town environment to raise their children. As empty nesters in 2010 they moved to Dos Palos, California.
Mike was a automotive/smog technician until an injury left him no longer able to "turn a wrench". He then became a service advisor at Travel Centers of America. He had a passion for cars, mostly muscle cars. He could tell you just about anything you wanted to know (or not know) about any car made.
He was a longtime volunteer at Eagle Field Drag Races doing racer registration. One week before he died he purchased a project car just so he could go down that track. He won't be going down that track, but I'm sure there's one in Heaven for him. He will be missed by friends from many different aspects of his life. Military, Fishing Buddies, Wild Bunch CB Club and Golden Valley Harley Davidson Owners Group.
Mike leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Schwartz; sons, Matthew Schwartz and wife, Laura Bain and Andrew Schwartz; daughter, Stephanie Ludlum and husband, Jack; grandsons, Clayton Henson, Evan Schwartz and grandson #3 due in March; parents, Ralph and Antoinette Schwartz of Lewiston, California; brother, Ralph Schwartz of Oakley, California; sister, Ann Tremaine of Lahaina, Hawaii; numerous sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
