Emily G. McKinney, 102, formerly of Reading, Stony Creek Mills and Adamstown, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018, in her home in Raleigh, N.C. She was the wife of Charles R. McKinney for 37 years, who passed away in 1985.

Born in Reading, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Gertrude E. (Bortle) Knouse.

She graduated from Mt. Penn High School in 1934 and attended the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1937. Emily further studied and interned at universities and hospitals in New York City, Philadelphia and Boston, and then worked as a clinical nursing instructor at the Reading Hospital from 1942-1948. She and her husband, Charles, also owned and operated the Adamstown Beer Distributing Company from 1949 until 1975.

Emily enjoyed playing the organ, performing with the church handbell choir, charitable work, knitting, crocheting, letter correspondence and traveling abroad. She was a member of Calvary Reformed U.C.C., and a life member of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.

Emily is survived by one son, Scott A. McKinney, husband of Sandra A., of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren: Shawn D. McKinney, husband of Gwen, of Ephrata; Stephanie L. McKinney, of Denver, Pa.; Brian L. McKinney, husband of Erin M., of Wilmington, N.C.; and Shannon L. Puschaver, wife of Samuel, of Wilmington, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren: Chase L. Brumbach, currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Brecken S., Scarlet A. and Camille R. Puschaver, and Abigail S. McKinney.

She is predeceased by two sons, Steven D., Larry M.; and siblings, Alice E. and Edward R. Knouse.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., with services beginning at 1:30 p.m. in Lutz Funeral Home Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Ave., Reading. Interment will be at Spies-Zion Cemetery, Alsace Township. Lutz Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
