Christena May Wilson was born April 12, 1932 in what was Gaylor Bend, near Whitehorn Cove, in Wagoner County, Oklahoma. She married her husband, Edgar Q.L. Wilson, on April 11, 1953. They met when she was fifteen and he was seventeen. Friends had been telling them about each other before they finally met a pie supper at the school, and soon fell in love.

Christena was gifted with musical talent. She played the guitar from the age of seven. She sang with her family in the Owen Quartet. They sang gospel music for five different radio stations, the first being the KOLS radio station out of Pryor in July, 1950. They began their own morning show in August, 1950. There is probably not a church or state venue in which they didn’t perform.

Christena was a founding member of the Ray Holiness Church and a member of the Ray Singers along with Kermit Rhodes and Bill Brummett. She had been attending the Church of God before Ray was established. Throughout her life her family knew she loved God.

In her later years Christena continued to share her musical talent. She wrote jingles for KRMG. She was a happy, giving person and sang while she worked. Her friendliness was welcoming in the job as the first Wagoner Walmart greeter. She cleaned homes and was a seamstress both in her early years and later in the sewing factory. Her sewing carried over to her family. She made most of her clothes and loved to make costumes for her children and grandchildren, including cheerleading and multiple power ranger costumes.

She loved to read, especially the Chicken Soup books and enjoyed thrift shopping and collecting redbirds and angels. Two of her favorite things were butterflies and cats. Her favorite television shows were Andy Griffith and Wheel of Fortune.

Christena departed this life Tuesday, November 20, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Q.L. Wilson; her parents, James and Lois Owen; an infant daughter, Corinne Wilson; son-in-law, Pete Milliron; and siblings, Elmer Owen, Adlea Dale, Lodena McClendon, William Owen and Betty Rowe.

Her family will cherish her memory forever. Christena’s mind remained sharp, and her descendants feel blessed that she shared her life stories with them and was a good historian. She was an extraordinary mother and grandmother who could play baseball with the grandchildren and cook the best fried chicken ever.

Survivors include her children and spouses, Edgar Q.L. Wilson Jr. and his special friend, Tammy Jones of Wagoner, OK, Lois and Alton Dubois of Eldorado Springs, MO, Colleen Milliron of Peggs, OK, Delbert and Rhonda Wilson of Hulbert, OK, Christena Elaine and Ron Phillips of Porter, OK and John and Ann Wilson of Wagoner, OK; grandchildren, Christena Mendez, Jay Paul Milliron, David Wilson, Shelby Wilson, Jordan Tinsley, Justin Wilson, Jayce Phillips, Jennifer Dickey, Daniel Wilson, Luke Dubois, James Dubois, Ethan Dubois, Dustin Wilson, Trey Glass and Skyla Cochran; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Lenora and Eugene Brown, brother, Joe and Juanita Owen, sister-in-law, Mildred Waits, brother-in-law, Andrew Wilson; other extended family and friends.
