Bathing Fatality.
By Wire.— From Our Correspondent.
ADELAIDE. 16th January.
Three ladies, Mrs. Schell, Miss Schell and Miss Horn, were drowned to-day while bathing. The former was a Miss Horn and was married four mouths ago.
ADELAIDE, Sunday. In connection with the sad drowning fatality at Morgan on the 16th inst., it appears that, the day being very warm, the unfortunate women went into the creek, which is full of holes, to bathe, while the Misses Joerckins remained in the boat watching them. Suddenly Mrs. Schell disappeared, and almost immediately afterwards Miss Horn and Miss Schell went under the water. Rose Joerckins rushed to the assistance of the drowning ladies, and one of them caught hold of her, clung so tightly to her that she also was dragged beneath the surface. Miss Adelaide Joerckins, seeing the danger, urged the boat towards the spot, but was only just in time to catch her sister by the hair and drag her outside in an unconscious.
state. Mr. Schell heard the cries of drowning, and their would be rescuer ran to the river and plunged in, but was too late to be of assistance. He then made all speed to Morgan for assistance, and when with others he returned to the scene of the calamity the body of Miss Schell had already been taken out of the water. Miss Joerckins was still unconscious, but with the application of proper means of resuscitation, she was brought round. After two and a half hours' dragging the bodies of Miss Horn and Miss Schell were recovered.
