Jacob Michael Hayes, son of Michael Bruce Hayes and Michelle (Tuttle) Hayes Berkland, was born Dec. 24, 1986, at Carmichael, California. They lived in the Carmichael area until Jacob was nine years old when they moved to central Illinois. In 2000, they moved to Volga where he continued his education, graduating from Sioux Valley High School in 2005. Jacob attended Lake Area Vo-Tech in Watertown in 2006 and held various jobs and also helped on the family farm. He died on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 22 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and archery and was a car and motorcycle enthusiast. Jacob was also active in numerous sports throughout his life.
