BODY OF GUNNER WHO GAVE LIFE OVER GERMANY RETURNED

Body of S/Sgt Charles R. Lopez, 19, aerial gunner on a B-24, who was killed over Germany, October 16, 1944, will arrive in Topeka Friday noon.

He was born July 8, 1925, in Topeka and attended Topeka High School and Capital Catholic high school. He enlisted October 8, 1943, and received his training at Amarillo and Harlingen, Tex., air fields. Before going overseas, he was at the Topeka Army air field. He received the Air Medal and two Oak Leaf clusters for service over Germany; and, after his death, the Purple Heart award was sent to his wife. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe church.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Theresa Lopez, and a daughter, Auggie Teresa, who will be 4 years old Friday; his father, Pedro Lopez, all of the home at 228 Jefferson; four brothers, Mike of Santa Fe, N.M., and Julian, Ralph and Tony, all of Topeka; four sisters, Mrs. Augustine Gomez, Mrs. Mary Oliva, Mrs. Mabel Duran and Miss Socorro Lopez of Topeka; a brother-in-law who is a paratrooper at Ft. Bragg, N.C., Patrick G. Segovia.
