Willa Dean Peck Denton, 91, of Hattieville, died November 23, 2018. Dean, as she was called, was born in Hattieville, December 11, 1926, a daughter of Harvey Lair Peck and Mary Etta Masingill Peck. She graduated from Wonderview High School and received Bachelor’s and Master of Education degrees from Arkansas State Teachers’ College. Dean taught in elementary schools in Conway County for more than 40 years before retiring.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Leo Denton; her sister, Treva Lair Meador and brother-in-law, Monte D. Meador and a niece, Monica Lair Meador. Survivors include her nieces, Vivica Meador of Albuquerque, NM and Michele Meador-Hood (Susan) and great-niece, Olivia Meador-Hood of Reno, NV and many cousins and friends.
Dean was one-of-a-kind and unique, well known for her love of get-togethers with extended family, including her “Kansas and Missouri cousins” where there was lots of talking, laughter and food. She loved line-dancing to country-western music, crafting and collecting antiques. She was a member of Old Hickory Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at Harris Funeral Home chapel in Morrilton, Tuesday, November 27 at 10:00 a.m. with Bro. Johnny Hoffman officiating. Burial will be at Old Hickory Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory, to Old Hickory Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
