He attended Lindsay Jr. High & Hampton High School. He earned his AS in Architecture at TNCC. He worked over 26 years in the shipbuilding industry as a Marine Designer at Gibbs & Cox (both in Newport News and Maine), and Newport News Shipbuilding. He then switched careers and became owner/operator of the Virginia Peninsula APA, in the American Poolplayers Association franchise for 11 years. Steve was recognized for many awards with the APA Franchise, including several League Operator of the Year nominations. He also assisted in the production of many of the APA National Pool Tournaments in Las Vegas, where thousands of poolplayers from the United States, Canada and Japan competed. He also helped found Break Away Billiards (now Peninsula Billiards) which he owned for 10 years.
Steve was also an ABC Store Manager opening their Bayberry location. In his youth, Steve was a volunteer at Northampton Fire Dept. where he won Apprentice of the Year. He also worked briefly as a firefighter at Ft. Monroe. Steve was active in the Boy Scouts and was a Scoutmaster for his son's troop in Hidenwood. Steve was a devoted, loving husband and father. He married his high school sweetheart and they had recently celebrated their 40th anniversary. He was an avid poolplayer and enjoyed trips to Walt Disney World in Florida. Steve leaves behind countless friends and family members who will miss him sorely. His loyalty, compassion and friendly smile will long be remembered, as well as his Indiana Jones hat.
Visitation will take place at Peninsula Funeral Home on Monday from 5-7 pm. The service is on Tuesday at 11 am at Peninsula Funeral Home, with burial at Parklawn Cemetery immediately following.
