A two-vehicle, head on crash caused when a Hopkinsville man apparently fell asleep at the wheel has resulted in the death of a Trigg County woman, according to Kentucky State Police officials. Trooper Chris Anderson said Sandra McGinnis, 44, of Cadiz, was eastbound on US68 about two miles west of Cadiz around 6:22 a.m. Tuesday morning when a westbound vehicle driven by J. Albert Burks IV, 20, of Hopkinsville, swerved into the westbound lane causing the collision. Both vehicles were severely damaged by the impact. Burks vehicle came to rest blocking the westbound lane of the highway, while McGinnis vehicle came to rest on the eastbound shoulder. Both were wearing seat-belts.
McGinnis, the wife of Trigg County schools superintendent, Tim McGinnis and a teacher at Indian Hills Elementary School in Hopkinsville, was pronounced dead at the scene by Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson. Burks was rushed to the Trigg County Hospital, and later transported to a medical hospital in Nashville.
