Richard S. Toth Sr., 79, of Champion, entered into eternal life on Thanksgiving morning in his home following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on December 19, 1938 in Conneaut, Ohio the son of the late Steve and Mary Beno Toth and was a 1956 graduate of Conneaut High School.

A Veteran of the United States Army National Guard, Richard enlisted in the United States Army in Conneaut, Ohio on July 2, 1956 where he was a tank gunner and sharp shooter. He was honorably discharged on July 1, 1961 in Conneaut, Ohio with the rank of Sergeant.

Richard was employed with the Conneaut Police Department as a Patrolman from 1962 until 1966 when he moved to Warren and began employment with General Motors in Lordstown where he worked in Security for 29 years retiring in August of 1993. He also worked for 4 years in security at Kraftmaid Cabinetry in Middlefield.

He was a member of VFW 1090 in Warren, Moose 186 in Warren and was Past Commander of the Army Navy Garrison 283. Richard enjoyed golfing and was an avid NASCAR fan. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Richard was a longtime member of the former St. Pius X Catholic Church in Warren and was now a current member of St. John Paul II Parish on North Street in Warren.

Richard was married on December 28, 1992 to the former Sunny Baugher and they were married for 13 years until her passing on September 24, 2006.

Memories of Richard will be carried on by his daughter Steffanie (Chief Donald Sr.) Bishop of Warren; a son Richard S. (Kim) Toth Jr. of Greenville; a brother Donald (Bonnie) Toth of Conneaut; a sister Barb (Vern) Rice of Fairview, PA; five grandsons Donald (fiancée Chrissy Metz) Bishop Jr., Mike and Bryan Bishop, and Jonathan and Sean Toth; and two great granddaughters Ashlynn and Carolynn.

Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a son John C. Toth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. John Paul II Parish 420 North Street NW, Warren, Ohio 44483 with Fr. Christopher Henyk officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in Conneaut.
