Mr. Walter Banks Reid, Jr.died November 21, 2018 at River Landing at Sandy Ridge, in Colfax, North Carolina. He died exactly as he lived, surrounded by love, deeply committed to his faith and with grace and good humor.
He was born December 1, 1920 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late W. Banks Reid, Sr. and Byrd Cross Reid. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sarah Giles Reid, and his sister, Mrs. Mary Morris Reid Spearman. Mr. Reid is survived by his son Walter B. Reid, III and his wife, Penalie Cole Reid, their three children, Geoffrey Charles Burdett Reid and his wife, Janet West Reid and their children, Carolina Marjorie Reid and Jacob Banks Harrison Reid, by their daughter, Stacey Reid Harris and her husband Jonathan Greer Harris and their children, Sarah Cole Harris and Anna Bell Harris, and their son, Jason Alexander Kirkpatrick Reid and his wife Catherine Lassiter Reid and their daughter, Campbell Lassiter Reid.
Mr. Reid's other son, John Cross Reid and his wife Gene Fant Reid, and their three daughters, Heather Reid Hess and her children, Hunter Hess and Sarah Kate Hess, by Melissa Reid Rash and her husband Brian Rash, and by Nathalie Reid Allman and her husband Jason Allman. Mr. Reid is also survived by one nephew, Morris Spearman and his wife Pattie Spearman.
Mr. Reid was a member of Calvary Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, and after moving to Colfax to the River Landing retirement home, a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Reid worked in the Belk Store in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and as a buyer for Belk Store Services in Charlotte, North Carolina and for Little Hardware Company in Charlotte.
A memorial service will be held at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax, North Carolina on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 10:00 am, with a graveside service following at 3:00 pm at Sharon Presbyterian Church on Sharon Road in Charlotte, with both services being conducted by Dr. Charles Peters, Pastor of Smith Grove Baptist Church.
