Billy Gillespie
January 15, 1942 - November 21, 2018

William Dean Bovard Gillespie, Jr., was born January 15, 1942 and died Wednesday, November 21, 2018.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Nora Guy Gillespie and Bovard Gillespie; maternal grandparents, W.T. and Eve Cordelia Guy; paternal grandparents, Rev. E.G. and Mattie Gillespie; and brother, Danny Gillespie.

He was saved on November 30, 1952 and served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the rest of his life. Billy pastored twenty eight churches in twenty five years within the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was a 1961 graduate of Ketron High School and graduated from Hiwassee College and Asbury University. Billy proudly served in the U.S. Navy from the fall of 1961 until 1962. On November 25, 2011 Billy married the love of his life, Karen Hunley and they shared seven wonderful years together.

Billy is survived by his loving wife, Karen Hunley Gillespie, Kingsport; sister, Phyllis Gillespie, Kingsport; brother, Gordon Gillespie, Findlay, Ohio; niece, Megan Edwards (Don), Woodstock, Ohio; nephew, Eric Gillespie (Erin), Findlay, Ohio; great-nephews, Grayden and Cooper Edwards, Woodstock, Ohio, and Declan and Soren Gillespie, Findlay, Ohio; and a host of cousins and friends.

Billy’s receiving of friends will be on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at Vermont United Methodist church, 1817 Bloomingdale Pike, Kingsport, TN. The service of remembrance will follow with Pastors Jared Wood and Jeremy McMillan presiding. Burial will follow in Vermont Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be friends and family. Honorary pallbearers will be all pastors of Holston Conference of United Methodist Church, Gilbert McNutt, Randy Sansbury and Lloyd McMillan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or charity of your choice.
